Sidekick
This is Liza. That's Liza with a "Z" not Lisa with an "S" (showing my age here). Liza came with JoJo but wasn't in bad shape like she was. We believe they live down the road but nobody has come to look for them and I'm not sure if they actually need to be there. Liza'a collar was so tight that it was choking her. She is so sweet and shy and not much of a fighter so I worry about her. I'm keeping a close eye.

Here comes trouble!

Here comes trouble!
This is JoJo. My neighbor came over and told me there was a sick puppy on her porch and I went over and saw immediately that something wasn't right. She was so thin and dehydrated. I worked all night getting fluid down her and by the next day she started eating. She is now so full of life. She holds her own with Bella who is now twice her size. She is going to be trouble ... I can tell!

"What shoes would look best with this jacket?"

"What shoes would look best with this jacket?"
This is Bella. I was taking a walk in the trail with Ginger, our older almost deaf and blind small dog, and I heard a rustling in the woods coming our way. She almost got right up on us before she realized we were there. I'm not sure who started yelping first but it was like the scene in ET with the girl and the alien screaming at each other with fear. I picked up the puppy and she settled down and was almost asleep by the time I made it home. She slept the first twenty four hours and then ate the next twenty four hours. She shivers alot so we got her the jacket. She seems to really like it. I don't think it will last though once she gets brave enough to start playing with the gang. We'll see.

There's just not enough love here!

There's just not enough love here!
This is Andy. I'm always telling him he's my favorite. The neighbor across the street moved away and left him behind. He was just a puppy with scrawny legs and big 'ol pot belly. He had worms. But he grew up to be a beautiful swan! He loves riding in the jeep. There are some days that I have take him for a ride down the street and back just to make him stop whinning. Pitiful, huh?

"Wow! Do I get my own bedroom?"

"Wow! Do I get my own bedroom?"
This was Suzy. Yeah ... was. She too was on the side of the road. When we found her she was so malnourished and sick that we couldn't save her. We only had her for 3 weeks but it was the best 3 weeks of her life! We still miss those beautiful eyes.

"I'm Innocent ... I swear!"

"I'm Innocent ... I swear!"
This is Shasta. Looks innocent, huh? Well, looks can be decieving. She cannot be left alone with anything that you don't want shredded. I will eventually have to rebuild the back deck if she doesn't grow out of the "chewing" phase. She's the only dog I have allowed to sleep in the bed with me. Only becasue I'm afraid of what I will find the next morning.

Time to Play!

Time to Play!
This is Holley and Hayden. They were dropped off on the side of the road near where I live and of course I picked them up. My neighbors relative had just lost their 4 legged baby that was black and wanted Hayden. I hated splitting them up but with all the others around to play with, Holley was like "Hayden who?". We had to go through several rounds of medication to fight off Red Mange but eventually got rid of it and I almost killed her in the process. I misread the instructions and was giving her 10 times the dose recommended for her weight. Oh well ... like they say ... what doesn't kill us makes us stronger and she is now big and strong and healthy.

I just can't get comfortable!

I just can't get comfortable!
This is Bugsy. He's name is very appropriate. He is our clown of the bunch and always likes to be center of attention. And if he doesn't have your attention, he'll find a way to get it.

Hey! Can't I groom in peace!

Hey! Can't I groom in peace!
This is Ben. He also has been around for awhile. But about a year ago he got a severe ear infection and when we took him in to have surgery they told us he was diabetic. We had to get that under control before he could be operated on. About the middle of 2008 he was finally able to be operated on. It helped for a little while but by October, the ear infection started getting bad again. Next option was an aggressive surgery that the vet thought he wouldn't survive. So we decided that he had enough of the sticking and pricking and ear aches. Although he always did very well and would come sit in our laps after trying 3 or 4 times to get a blood reading, we decided to let him go with Clara. So also on October 20th 2008, he was allowed to finally be free from it all.

They call me "Bear Cub"

They call me "Bear Cub"
This is Clara. When she gets groomed, she looks like a bear cub. Laura picked her up along with Ginger many years ago and she has lived a good full life. She really enjoys the morning walks and I always felt safe becasue she was always on guard for anything out of the usual. That might be the part Chow in her. On October 20th 2008, we decided to let her go. She was old and suffering from a bone disease. She is still with us though every morning when we walk keeping an eye on us. Please see what I wrote after our first walk without her posted Oct 21st.

"I'm Batman!"

"I'm Batman!"
This is BJ ... Batman Junior. Don't you love his mask? I first noticed him at an exit of I65 on my way home. Over a 6 week period, I saw several people trying to aproach him with food but he always stayed six feet back. I even tried a few times with no luck. Laura stopped at the gas station to fill up and he basically walked right up to her. She opened the back door and he got in. I sometimes call him weirdo because I've never seen a dog that always has to go out whatever door he came in. He's very supersticious.

"No, I'm not going to smile!"

"No, I'm not going to smile!"
This is Maggie and she really does smile. Of course not on camera. She appeared one day at the fence and as I approached her she just laid down and looked at me like she was saying "I just can't go any further". She had heartworms and a hurt back leg from a gunshot wound. She is now free from heartworms and her leg is healing very well. She now lives with Bekah and being very spoiled. I'm sure we didn't do it to her.

"Everybody wants to be a cat ... cause a cat's the only cat who knows where it's at."

"Everybody wants to be a cat ... cause a cat's the only cat who knows where it's at."
This is Gabriel. His owner went to college and couldn't take him. She's a friend and very familiar with how we treat pets and knew he'd be in good hands ... you think?

"Hey! I've got hair!"

"Hey! I've got hair!"
This is Sam. When we found him in a shelter he only weighed 50lbs and had very little hair due to mange. Needless to say ... he now weighs about 120lbs and boy does he have hair!

"Look deep into my eyes"

"Look deep into my eyes"
Lucy was found on the side of a country road looking for food. She was not in to bad of shape but the road had dangerous curves and she was likely to get hit. Rudy was very glad we brought her home. He was quiet smitten with her.

"Come on! I can take anything you can dish out!"

"Come on! I can take anything you can dish out!"
Rudy had been shot by a bb gun, pellet gun, bird shot and had barbedwire wrapped around his body and thrown in a creek. A neighbor to the man who had done this found him and took him to the animal clinic. They called me and told me the story and said he needed a special home. I've been so amazed and how loving and tusting he has been from the start. They are truly remarkable animals. His name Rudy comes from the little Notre Dame football player that wouldn't stay down.

"What do you mean I'm a dog?"

"What do you mean I'm a dog?"
Ginger was found on the side of I65 several years ago and has been with us for quiet a while. She is the only one (up until recently) that had the priviledge to sleep in the bedroom. She gets a bit offended if you start treating her like a dog. What were we thinking?

"Arf"

"Arf"
Now Star on the other hand thinks she's a dog and loves going for walks in the woods with the other dogs. She chases other cats and torments them.

"Awe Andy! You're embarrassing me!"

"Awe Andy! You're embarrassing me!"
This is Houdini on right. He's not with us anymore. But he was very loved while he was with us and Andy still misses him.

Rough life but somebody's got to do it!

Rough life but somebody's got to do it!
This is Andy and Tanner after a hard day of ... well ... being dogs.
